Click to Call: what it is, how it works, and the benefits it offers
| September 18, 2026Click to Call: what it is
Click to Call (also known as Click to Talk or Click to Dial) is a technology that allows users to initiate a phone call to a business directly from a website, an application, or another digital channel. With a simple click, the user can get in touch with an agent without having to search for and manually dial a phone number.
This contact method therefore bridges the digital and telephone channels and can be used in various contexts – from customer service and sales activities to managing support requests.
How Click to Talk works
The user visits a website or uses a digital channel and sees a button inviting them to contact the company. By simply clicking, the system’s procedure is triggered: the call can start immediately or a contact request can be generated.
Depending on the configuration, the request can be transferred to a Contact Centre, an agent, or a communications management system.
Furthermore, in an environment integrated with a CRM, contact information can be made available to the agent before or during the conversation. This makes it possible to link the call to the relevant customer or lead and have the information already present in the company’s system at hand.
Business applications
Within a business, Click to Dial can be used to facilitate contact between customers or prospective customers and agents.
In addition to sales activities, it can be integrated into various processes, including:
- Customer support, to quickly transition from an online query to a telephone conversation;
- Sales, to allow a prospective customer to speak with an agent during their purchasing journey;
- Technical support, when a digital request requires a more in-depth telephone discussion;
- Bookings and information requests, to facilitate contact with a specific department or service;
- Lead management, by connecting an enquiry originating from the website to the Contact Centre’s subsequent activities.
In all these cases, Click to Call primarily serves to link a digital interaction with a telephone conversation.
Difference between Click to Dial and Call to Click
Generally speaking, therefore, Click to Call is aimed at the end user and makes it possible to initiate a call to a company through a digital interaction.
Click to Dial, on the other hand, is an internal feature used by agents that allows them to initiate a call by selecting a phone number stored in a CRM or another system, without having to type it in manually. The starting point, therefore, is not the customer browsing the website, but the agent who needs to make a call.
Finally, Call to Click occurs when a telephone conversation is linked to subsequent digital interactions. For example: during or after a phone call, the agent can send the customer a link, a document, a quote, or another digital resource via SMS, WhatsApp, or email. In this way, the telephone conversation becomes part of a journey that also continues across other channels.
Benefits for the Contact Centre
From the user‘s perspective, Click to Call simplifies access to the telephone channel and reduces the steps required to contact a company.
From the organisation‘s perspective, it can help make the transition between the digital and telephone channels more structured, especially when integrated with CRM and contact centre systems.
For agents, this integration can r – such as searching for and typing in a phone number and make the information associated with the contact readily available.
